1970

The book Alcoholism’s Children by Marist Trustee Br. Sean Sammon, FMS, has won two Catholic Press Association awards. Brother Sean also received the National Religious Vocation Conference Outstanding Recognition Award in a virtual ceremony in October 2020. Brother Sean is a Scholar in Residence at Marist and also heads up the Marist Brothers’ Novitiate Program, located on campus at Kirk House.

Kenneth Quinn returned to work in 2016 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration part-time to run the 1830 hat manufacturing shop. At the same time, his wife, Karen, was hired to run the historic foodways and cooking program.

1971

Mike Andrew was appointed to the National Soccer Rules Committee for high school soccer and the National Federation of High Schools.

1972

Edward Flournoy completed his Ph.D. in public policy and admin/law on July 20, 2020. He has a publication in ProQuest ScholarWorks on affordable housing and low-income families, from Walden University. He thanks Marist for his achievements.

Bill Romito is proud to announce that his granddaughter, Ashley Wohlrab, is a 2020 Marist graduate with a degree in business.

1973

Rafael Polo had his first book, Growing up American: A Novel, published by Covenant Books in 2019. His second book, Socialism: The Walking Dead, was published by Dorrance Publishing Co. in fall 2020. He is working on a new novel, to be published in 2021. Rafael moved to Arizona from upstate New York looking for a warm and dry climate.

Jack Simeone retired from his full-time position as chief program officer of Catholic Charities of Albany where he served for nearly 43 years. He will be managing some assigned projects on behalf of Catholic Charities part time.

1974

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center that William Bellows started and runs with a faculty colleague at American University has been named among the top 50 undergraduate programs for entrepreneurs in the U.S. by Princeton Review and Entrepreneurship magazine. The center includes its student startup incubator, which houses 20 different startup ventures.

Mike Harrigan retired after 45 years in telecommunications, including for major companies such as Time Warner, Frontier, and Viacom/CBS.    

1975

Elizabeth (“Beth”) Marshdoyle ’75 and James (“Jay”) A. Doyle ’75 returned to campus in September 2021 to meet the inaugural recipient of the scholarship they have endowed. They also met up with former classmate Bob Lynch ’75 at the Nelly Goletti Theatre. Beth was active in children’s theatre at Marist.

Deborah (Turner) Grimmett-Harris volunteers as an AARP tax aide every tax season. Aides complete taxes for anyone who needs help, beginning in January and continuing into April.

Fr. Paul Keenan, OFM, is on the pastoral staff at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, MA, since September 2020. He ministers to veterans and their families affected by alcoholism and substance abuse. 

Gary Slavin’s first book Four Pebbles on a Bench was published in November 2020.

1976

Barbara Flynn started volunteering for an assemblymember in New York City over two years ago and for the past five years has worked in a local food pantry. Before COVID she was taking classes at Fordham.

Scott Gregory joined the board of directors for the Southgulf Coast Chapter of Community Associations Institute.

Dave Margalotti is blessed to be overseeing a Christian radio network of 70 stations covering much of New York and Pennsylvania, working with on-air, news, production, digital media, and underwriting teams. He’s now in his 36th year of radio and still loves what he does! He would love to connect with any Red Foxes in the Finger Lakes region of New York. 
 

1978

Samuel Delgado was recommended by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin to the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission. The Legislative Latino Caucus issued the following statement: “With well over 1.7 million Hispanics living in New Jersey, the representation of our community on all levels of government is a priority we all share. As the state’s recreational cannabis market is formed, it is important that the voices of minority communities are amplified and represented in conversations and negotiations. Sam Delgado’s longstanding relationships in communities across New Jersey and previous experience in both the public and private sector make him a valuable addition to the membership of the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission. We look forward to Sam’s work on the Commission and to continue advocating for larger representation of the Hispanic community at large in New Jersey.”

Brian Rogers announced that the Lasses Rogers Band released the album Keep Up, which he co-wrote and co-produced with his wife, singer/songwriter Juliana Lasses.

1979

Bill Gerlach has been appointed president/CEO of the Columbia County (NY) Chamber of Commerce.  During his long career he served two stints on the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and credits his years at the Chamber with helping him attain many of his career goals.
